Slowed Hingeless Rotor Wind Tunnel Tests and Validation at High Advance Ratios

نویسندگان

چکیده

In forward flight, slowing down a rotor alleviates compressibility effects on the advancing side blade tip, extending cruise speed limit, and inducing high-advance-ratio flight regime. Previous wind tunnel tests have shown that an articulated trimmed to zero hub moment generates limited thrust at high advance ratios, because needs be against retreating with significant reverse flow, where is ineffective in generating thrust. A rigid hingeless lift offset may help overcoming this problem. series of were conducted investigate behavior slowed rotors ratios. Performance, control angles, vibratory loads, structural loads measured compared comprehensive analysis predictions. The results demonstrate more efficient exhibits higher lift-to-drag ratio load level significantly rotor, especially its flap bending moment, which can pose critical constraint rotor.

Wind tunnel tests of a free yawing downwind wind turbine

This research paper presents preliminary results on a behavioural study of a free yawing downwind wind turbine. A series of wind tunnel tests was performed at the TU Delft Open Jet Facility with a three bladed downwind wind turbine and a rotor radius of 0.8 meters. The setup includes an off the shelf three bladed hub, nacelle and generator on which relatively flexible blades are mounted. The to...

Investigation of Static Microisolators in Wind Tunnel Tests and Validation of CFD Cage Model

The results from an experimental and numerical study of a known mouse cage (static microisolator type) placed in a wind tunnel are presented. The study involved the collection of experimental airflow data and the use of these data in the validation of the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) cage model. This validation was important as it then allowed the CFD cage model to be used to represent ca...

Validation of Methodology for Estimating Aircraft Unsteady Aerodynamic Parameters from Dynamic Wind Tunnel Tests

A basic problem in flight dynamics is the mathematical formulation of the aerodynamic model for aircraft. This study is part of an ongoing effort at NASA Langley to develop a more general formulation of the aerodynamic model for aircraft that includes nonlinear unsteady aerodynamics and to develop appropriate test techniques that facilitate identification of these models. A methodology for mode...

Supersonic Wind - Tunnel Flutter Tests of Two Rectangular Wings

Two rectangular wings of aspect ratio 4 were flutter tested in a supersonic wind tunnel at Mach numbers 1·6 and 2·0 using a technique in which a structural stiffness was varied to give flutter at the Mach number. The results are in reasonable agreement with calculations using theoretical three-dimensional derivatives and arbitrary wing modes, though in general the calculated critical stiffnesse...

CFD for Better Understanding of Wind Tunnel Tests

CFD requires validation for complicated flow problems involving complex physics such as turbulence. Wind tunnels are still the most commonly used validation tools for CFD including physical modelling although some limited use of reliable DNS data base for simple geometries is recently becoming possible. One can observe the trend that a higher and higher demand on the accuracy of the wind tunnel...
